August 8, 2018 by CCF

CHARLESTON, S.C. August 8, 2018 – Coastal Community Foundation (CCF) is pleased to announce the promotion of Cherie Brown to Finance Manager. Brown joined the Foundation in 2014 as Finance Assistant.

Brown has an extensive background in accounting, beginning in 1998 in Wisconsin. She has fulfilled many roles at nonprofit and for-profit organizations which include housing, the restaurant industry, and brokerages. Locally, she worked with the Disability Board of Charleston for five years prior to joining the Coastal Community Foundation. She has extensive experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and financial reporting. Brown also brings experience from managing her own bookkeeping business, which she says “taught her the importance of checks and balances.” Brown earned her B.A. in Business Management with a concentration in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. She is currently studying for her CPA licensure.

“Her demonstrated experience over the last four years has shown Cherie is an asset to our organization,” said Christa Divis, Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Coastal Community Foundation. “Not only is her insight essential to our accounting process—Cherie has become a critical member of the team and brings to the table a depth of organizational history that we rely on in the Finance Department.”

Over the past four years, Brown has seen her role as Finance Assistant transform with the expansion of the organization. Her primary responsibility has been serving as chief support for the Foundation’s Vice President of Finance. In this role, Brown assisted with taxes, audits, accounts payable, and other administrative finance duties. Brown remains dedicated and passionate about her work with CCF because she believes “the organization helps the community grow and evolve.”

“It is not just about dollars, it is about making a difference” said Brown. CCF is accountable to the community and committed to equity—two things I care about very much.”

In her new position as Finance Manager, Brown will have a more focused role. Her primary functions will be serving as point person for certain finance requirements such as vendor relationships, and managing accounts payable as well as receiving contributions. She is excited to have a new defined focus within CCF as the organization works to achieve its strategic goals.
