CHARLESTON, S.C. May 21, 2015 – Coastal Community Foundation, a grantmaking institution dedicated to serving coastal South Carolina, today announced the final results from its second Lowcountry Giving Day, hosted May 5th. The event raised a total of $6,797,186.41 for 179 nonprofits across eight counties from 14,234 gifts in just 24 hours.
“Lowcountry Giving Day succeeded thanks to the enormous generosity of all those who contributed to the $6.8 million raised throughout the day,” explained Richard Hendry, Interim CEO of Coastal Community Foundation. “Our community’s shared enthusiasm helped raise the tide for the Lowcountry’s nonprofit sector across all areas of charitable work. With the help of thousands of supporters, everybody won on May 5th”.
Facilitated by Coastal Community Foundation, Lowcountry Giving Day was made possible by dozens of generous donors who contributed $2.8 million in advance to incentivize giving on May 5th. Coastal Community Foundation raised the second-highest amount of any community foundation participating in Give Local America, a national partnership of giving days hosted May 5th-6th that raised $68.5 million this year.
