Cooper River Bridge Run Announces Grant Recipients

January 21, 2015 by CCF

Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Counties: January 21, 2015 – In preparation for the 2015 Cooper River Bridge Run, the Cooper River Bridge Run Grants Program has provided $33,947 in grants to 33 deserving schools, houses of worship, and non-profits. This represents an increase from last year’s program, in which $28,118 in grants was awarded to 29 organizations.

Additionally, the Cooper River Bridge Run Grants Program has provided more than 450 in-kind entries for the March 28th 10K Cooper River Bridge Run and March 27th Kids’ Run to 20 organizations. This unique form of donation not only allows non-profits to promote a healthy lifestyle to their constituents, but also to serve as a positive example to the Lowcountry community.

Funded organizations will use the grants in a variety of ways. St. Stephen Elementary School will support a running club for its students, 98% of whom qualify for free or reduced lunch. The award gives students in this rural town the opportunity to travel to and participate in the Kids’ Run. Eat Smart Move More Charleston, a 2014 grant recipient, will train leaders to expand their community walking groups to Berkeley County.

Beginning their fund with Coastal Community Foundation in 2006, the Cooper River Bridge Run Grants Program provides grants of up to $1,500 to non-profits that promote “regular physical activity for a healthy lifestyle.

In supporting organizations that encourage physical activity and providing free entries for upcoming runs, the Cooper River Bridge Run Grants Program is creating a happier, healthier Lowcountry community.
