The Colleton Fund of Coastal Community Foundation awards first grant to The Colleton County Council on Aging

Coastal Community Foundation is pleased to announce The Colleton Fund of CCF has awarded its first grant totaling $5,051 to Walterboro-based nonprofit, The Colleton County Council on Aging.

The Colleton County Council on Aging provides hope, encouragement and support through an array of services designed to meet the needs of seniors in the community. The $5,051 grant will support the organization’s Home-Delivered Meals program — providing hot, well-balanced and nutritious meals to seniors in Colleton County who are unable to prepare food for themselves.

“On behalf of the Colleton County Council on Aging and the senior citizens of Colleton County, we are elated and grateful to be the first recipient of the Colleton Fund grant,” said Everlena Brown, Executive Director of The Colleton County Council on Aging. “The grant will enable the agency to provide 1500 additional Home-Delivered Meals.  It came at a much-needed time.”

The Colleton Fund was first envisioned 10 years ago by a group of 15 community members to award grants to benefit nonprofit organizations that serve Colleton County. The primary areas of interest include but are not limited to, health and human needs, education, the arts, historical preservation, the environment, and neighborhoods.

“We created this Fund to cater to the specific needs of Colleton County. While there are other funds at CCF that serve Colleton County, our group felt that the county needed a dedicated fund,” said Kathie Smith, Colleton Fund committee member. “Our hope is to grow the fund to award substantial grants into the future.”

The Fund is accepting charitable donations to continue to support 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving Colleton County residents. Tax-deductible donations can be made online on our donate page

“CCF is honored to have the opportunity to support nonprofits serving Colleton County,” said Veronica Hemmingway, Southern Lowcountry Director at Coastal Community Foundation. “We look forward to continuing to serve the community through The Colleton Fund for many years to come.”
