Coastal Community Foundation Announces Lowcountry Giving Day

Special event will raise money for 94 Charleston and Beaufort nonprofits with general public donations expanded by $1.5 million in matching funds
CHARLESTON, SC – APRIL 28, 2014 – Coastal Community Foundation, a grant-making institution dedicated to serving coastal South Carolina, today announced that May 6, 2014 will serve as the first-ever Lowcountry Giving Day. Organized in conjunction with the Council on Foundations and scheduled to coincide with giving days across the country, the event will incentivize donations from the general public on May 6 made through www.lowcountrygivingday.org.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the Lowcountry nonprofit community and the individuals and companies who will generously incentivize donations on May 6,” said George Stevens, CEO of Coastal Community Foundation. “Everyone has rallied to the cause and worked together to make this a truly historic event.”
On May 6, supporters of nearly 100 participating nonprofits in Charleston and Beaufort will make donations via lowcountrygivingday.org. Those donations will in turn be amplified by significant donations already earmarked for the event by backing donors. The total incentive pool for Lowcountry nonprofits – more than $1.5 million – far exceeds the incentive amount for any of the 60+ participating community foundations across the country.
Lowcountry Giving Day will take place from 12:01am on Tuesday, May 6 to 11:59pm that same day. Donations will be accepted throughout the day via lowcountrygivingday.org and donors can use the site to view the overall amount of donations, donations to any participating nonprofit and additional information to share with friends and neighbors through social media.
