Coastal Community Foundation Announces Plans For Second Lowcountry Giving Day

CHARLESTON, SC – October 13, 2014 – Coastal Community Foundation, a grantmaking institution dedicated to serving coastal South Carolina, today announced plans to facilitate Lowcountry Giving Day again on May 5, 2015. This year’s one-day, online fundraising event raised more then $4,000,000 for 93 nonprofits in the Charleston and Beaufort areas.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of donors, nonprofits and community members for Lowcountry Giving Day.  The incentive pool this coming year includes several new donors and continues our partnership with member organizations of the Charleston Regional Alliance for the Arts. The pool also exceeds the inaugural year’s total. Finally, our new open enrollment phase will allow many more nonprofits to participate,” said George Stevens, CEO of Coastal Community Foundation.

Lowcountry Giving Day will take place again on May 5, 2015. Like the 2014 event, incentivizing donors have selected specific nonprofits to participate (see page two) and more will be added in the coming weeks. The event will again focus on online giving and is designed to help Lowcountry nonprofits develop online fundraising and social media engagement capabilities. Please note – nonprofits already selected by donors can still arrange for additional incentive matches. Moreover, those hoping to participate through the open enrollment phase can exceed the $10,000 requirement or include multiple incentive matches as long as the combined incentives total at least $10,000.

In order to broaden participation, an open enrollment phase will take place for 30 days beginning today. During this phase, any nonprofit that meets the basic eligibility requirements and can verify an incentive match of at least $10,000 will be added to the roster. The 2015 edition will also expand geographically with nonprofit participation all the way from Horry County down to Beaufort County.

To learn more about rules, eligibility and key dates, go to www.lowcountrygivingday.org or www.coastalcommunityfoundation.org. Nonprofits interested in learning more about participation can submit questions to givingday@coastalcommunityfoundation.org. Members of the community interested in becoming an incentivizing donor can contact Director of Development Steffanie Dohn at steffanie@coastalcommunityfoundation.org.
