Coastal Community Foundation Awards its Largest Scholarship to Two Hampton County Graduates

Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina presented its largest scholarships to date to two graduating Hampton County High School students: Jimiah Brown and Solana Manor.

The Marcia and Johnny Wood Scholarship is available only to students in Hampton County and provides $25,000 per year, renewable throughout their four years of college. With up to $100,000 available per student, recipients of the Marcia & Johnny Wood Scholarship should be able to graduate from college with little to no debt.

“I was really surprised. I’m ecstatic. I can’t believe it,” said scholarship recipient Jimiah Brown. “It means I can focus primarily on studying.”

The scholarship fund was first established in 2004, and estate gifts throughout 2024 and 2025 increased the fund to its current giving capacity. Marcia Wood was an active resident of Hampton County during her lifetime. She worked for more than forty years at BB&T Bank, served sixteen years on Hampton County Council, and was a volunteer on the Community Committee for Estill Federal Prison Facility and CCF’s Beaufort Fund committee.

“Hampton County educated me and Johnny, and people helped us along the way,” said Marcia Wood when she established the scholarship. “I want to give back by enabling the advancement of education of future graduates of the public school system.”

“The Marcia and Johnny Wood Scholarship demonstrates the importance of place,” said Darrin Goss, Sr., President and CEO of Coastal Community Foundation. “Many of our donors care deeply about this region and want their investments to make a direct impact on the community they love. We are proud to be a part of that work, and this scholarship will be life-changing for Hampton County students.”

Solana Manor plans to study Industrial Engineering at USC Upstate. Jimiah Brown plans to study Graphic Communications at Clemson. She is also Hampton County High School’s Class of 2026 Valedictorian.
