Dorchester County: January 26, 2015 – Coastal Community Foundation’s Dorchester County Fund has awarded $15,000 to local nonprofits addressing a variety of community needs. Thanks to the generosity of donors invested in supporting Dorchester County, the fund recently completed its third grant cycle.
Out of a pool of 27 applications, 6 nonprofits received funding. One of those organizations is The ARK of South Carolina, a nonprofit that provides comprehensive support services for individuals and families experiencing Alzheimer’s disease and other related memory disorders (ADRD). There are 1,300 ADRD families in Dorchester County, making The ARK’s services especially critical. Support from the Dorchester County Fund will help The ARK widen access to their services by providing up to 100 scholarships to cover program fees and round-trip transportation to families in financial need.
The Dorchester County Fund grants program was established in 2010 by local philanthropists interested in serving the region. Grantees are selected annually by a committee of individuals who live or work in Dorchester County.
