#GivingTuesday

Tuesday, November 29, 2016 marks the fifth anniversary of #GivingTuesday. This day kicks off the charitable season by joining the power of social media and philanthropy in order to bring change in communities across the world.

#GivingTuesday is celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It was created in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact, a cultural center in New York City focused on using innovation to drive social change.

One of CCF’s partners and donors, Blackbaud, plays a significant role in the success of this global day of giving. Blackbaud not only provides great resources for how to get the most out of #GivingTuesday, but they also provide up-to-date resources for their customers in order to track all of the giving processed throughout the day.

One great example of a nonprofit maximizing their #GivingTuesday experience:

In 2015, the Cleveland Library and the Enoch Pratt Free Library united to have a fundraising challenge to mirror the Monday night football game between the Browns and the Ravens. The two libraries competed to see which one could raise more money cheap amoxicillin 500 mg. The winner was the Pratt Library in Baltimore and they raised more than $41,000 for their library programs. The losing team, Cleveland Library, then shared a video of the Library Director performing Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven” on social media. By coming together and participating in Giving Tuesday the two libraries raised more funds for their programs, increased their social media followings, and created a model for collaboration between communities.
