Griffith-Reyburn Lowcountry Artist of the Year pays homage to rural, working-class South

Studying Katelyn Chapman’s paintings, I am transported back to the homes of my family members in the rural South. The plastic container of fresh green beans, half-eaten sleeve of Club Crackers and Food Lion coupons on the kitchen table, the rectangular woven produce baskets and the unwelcome opossum near the chicken coop are all familiar to me — and clearly to Chapman as well.
