Jewish Endowment Fund’s Unrestricted Endowment Announces 2016 Grantees

Supporting organization of CCF awards largest grant cycle in its history thanks to donor’s generosity

CHARLESTON, SC – February 10, 2016 – Jewish Endowment Fund, a supporting organization of Coastal Community Foundation and Charleston Jewish Federation focused on Jewish causes, has announced eight grantees will receive a total of $74,600 from its most recent Unrestricted Endowment program cycle.

The Unrestricted Endowment’s competitive grant program, which launched in 2011, greatly expanded its reach this year thanks to generous funding from the Stanley B. Farbstein Endowment of JEF. Created in 2014 through a bequest from Mr. Farbstein, a native of Beaufort and former Charleston resident, his endowment provided the additional funding for this program. JEF’s Unrestricted Endowment program had awarded less than $10,000 since its founding, but now it will award more than $70,000 annually.

Most grants from JEF are recommended by the donor who creates the endowment. However, each year the JEF Board recommends a number of grants from the Unrestricted Endowment following a competitive application process.

To qualify for the JEF Unrestricted Grants Program, applicants must serve residents of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston or Dorchester counties and have the primary mission of preservation or furtherance of Jewish culture and/or religion.
