The Impact of #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is right around the corner! Kick off the charitable season on Tuesday, November 29th by getting involved in this global day of giving powered by social media and collaboration. If you are a nonprofit organization now is the time to brainstorm how you are going to utilize #GivingTuesday to benefit your mission. Be sure to join the movement whether it is through donations, a gift, your time or the power of your voice in your local community.
For nonprofit organizations who are having a difficult time deciding how to use #GivingTuesday to their advantage, below are a few case studies to help get the juices flowing:

  1. CrowdRise, the world’s #1 fundraising site for charitable and personal causes, launched the “Giving Tower” to encourage people to donate “bricks” (money) to charities on CrowdRise. The virtual tower was displayed with each donation in order to show the power of generosity around the globe.
  2. In 2015, ORGANIZE, an online organ donor platform, asked people to “Give with your Heart” by registering as organ donors online. Through the use of Twitter chats, graphics and materials that educated and encouraged organ donations, they earned more than 40 million impressions and registered thousands of Americans as organ donors. This was the biggest digital donor drive in US history.
  3. Learning to Give, a nonprofit focused on educating youth about philanthropy, launched the TeachOne movement on #GivingTuesday. TeachOne encourages more than 10,000 elementary school teachers in America to teach one lesson to their students about philanthropy. The movement includes teachers taking part in a free pledge and then sharing their experience on Twitter with #Teach1. Learning to Give provides sample messaging in order to help teachers share their message.

The above case studies and more can be found in the #GivingTuesday toolkit on givingtuesday.org.
