The LAMC Nontraditional Student Scholarship awards college scholarships up to $5,000 for students who are considered “nontraditional”. The LAMC Nontraditional Student Scholarship will help to cover the cost of tuition, fees, and additional billed expenses at an accredited college.

Eligibility criteria

  • Permanent resident of one of the following North Charleston neighborhoods: Accabee, Chicora Cherokee, Union Heights, Howard Heights, Windsor Place, Five Mile or Liberty Hill.

     

    Nontraditional student, meeting at least one of the following:

    • Ineligible for federal, state, or local financial aid
    • Returning learner who works part-time or full-time while enrolled in school
    • Received a GED or Certificate of Completion
    • Did not matriculate directly from high school
    • Is older than the typical college student (25+)

     

    Must maintain a 2.5 GPA

     

Application process and schedule

  • Applications can be completed online beginning mid-January. Each applicant will only complete one application and the online system will automatically pair you with scholarships for which you are eligible. The deadline for all applications to be submitted, including letters of recommendation, is mid-March. All applicants will be contacted regarding their application status by early July. Specific deadlines can be found on our scholarship portal each year, which can be accessed through the “Apply” button on our Scholarships for Graduate & Non-traditional Students page.
