Lowcountry Scholarship for Nontraditional Students
The Lowcountry Scholarship for Nontraditional Students was developed to support students who have historically been underserved by traditional financial aid and scholarships. Coastal Community Foundation and our donors understand the transformative impact technical colleges have on students and their community. This scholarship will help students in Beaufort, Colleton, Jasper, and Hampton counties cover the cost of attendance at a South Carolina accredited technical college.
Average award: up to $5,000 — renewable for up to two years.
Criteria for eligibility
Applicants must meet at least one of the following nontraditional student criteria: Ineligible for state, federal and local financial aid, a returning learner, received a GED or Certificate of Completion, or did not matriculate directly from high school. Applicants must be permanent residents of Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, or Jasper counties, enrolled or accepted for enrollment at a South Carolina accredited technical college, and maintain a 2.5 GPA minimum.
Application process and schedule
Applications can be completed online beginning mid-January. Each applicant will only complete one application and the online system will automatically pair you with scholarships for which you are eligible. The deadline for all applications to be submitted, including letters of recommendation, is mid-March. All applicants will be contacted regarding their application status by early July. Specific deadlines can be found on our scholarship portal each year, which can be accessed through the “Apply” button on our Scholarships for Graduate & Non-traditional Students page.
