Catholic Charities (CC) serves as a helping hand to its brothers and sisters in the South Carolina community. Deacon Dan Powers, Executive Director shares, “We don’t seek to make our clients dependent upon us for goods or services, rather we offer them our help so that they can be independently successful.” Striving to break the poverty in South Carolina, Catholic Charities takes a unique approach by viewing everyone as equal brothers and sisters. It is more than just a helping hand at CC, it is a hand up.
Through the success of CC, they have recently opened a new Our Lady’s Pantry and Clothing Closet in Hardeeville. Expanding their efforts even further than before. With this continued growth, if funding prevails, Catholic Charities hopes to open a Clean of Heart in the same building where visitors can use shower and laundry facilities. This service is important to CC, because it allows the homeless to leave feeling respected and dignified.
This expansion is not all CC has been working on. They truly know how to keep busy with the opening of a Clean of Heart in Myrtle Beach, expansion of their prison re-entry program, immigration legal services, and a new food pantry with only food high in nutrition opening in Charleston. Catholic Charities strives to provide the best services to their clients through developing new initiatives.
