Coastal Community Foundation Announces 2023 Equity Series Speaker

Coastal Community Foundation will host the popular Equity Speaker Series for a second year, with featured speaker Jeff Chang. Chang is a renowned social historian, organizer, and author. His ground-breaking work in politics, music, arts, and activism has had a profound impact within racial justice conversations.

“In these times of social polarization, we all need to figure out how to come together to build the communities we want to live and thrive in,” said Chang. “But we can’t get to the future of belonging that we all want until we talk about race, equity, and justice.”

The annual Equity Speaker Series, presented in partnership with Blackbaud, features nationally recognized thought leaders who discuss how equity intersects with a variety of issues in our communities, such as economic mobility, education, health and wellness, and culture.  The inaugural speaker in 2022 was Barbara Whye, Vice President of Inclusion and Diversity for Apple.

“We were extremely pleased with the support, turnout, and success of the first event in the Equity Speaker Series last year,” said President and CEO Darrin Goss. “We have expanded the capacity for the event this fall and look forward to the opportunity to hear Jeff Chang’s insight on creating meaningful change in our community.”

The event will be a luncheon on Tuesday, October 3 at Trinity Hall (34 Race Street, Charleston) starting at 10:30 a.m. Attendees have an in-person or virtual ticket option. Tickets to attend the event in-person are $90, virtual attendance is $35. To learn more about the event, purchase tickets, or discover sponsorship opportunities, click here.
