Charleston, SC: November 10, 2014 – The Open Grants Committee of Coastal Community Foundation is proud to present $313,674 to 42 local nonprofits that enhance the arts, education, the environment, health, human needs or community development in Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester and Georgetown Counties. Caroline Mullis, Coastal Community Foundation’s Program Associate, noted that “…the thorough discussion and thoughtful deliberation by the committee was amazing to see unfold, and while there were so many important aspects to consider, they were rigorous and reflective from start to finish.”
Some of this year’s recipients include the Association for the Blind, for the continuation of their school-based ReFocus program; Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic, to provide their high-risk patients with free medical assistance; East Cooper Community Outreach, to support their Health Services program; Fields to Families, to provide meals to people in the community who are struggling with food insecurity; Limbs Without Limits, to provide support adventures to residents with mobility impairments; Lowcountry AIDS Services, to assist low-income, needs individuals living with HIV/AIDS; and Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Services, to provide on-going comprehensive dental care to low-income, uninsured individuals.
