Affiliation expands Coastal Community Foundation to nine-county service area and fifth supporting organization

CHARLESTON, SCJuly 9, 2015 – Coastal Community Foundation, a grantmaking institution dedicated to serving coastal South Carolina, today announced a new affiliation with Waccamaw Community Foundation. Based in Murrells Inlet, Waccamaw Community Foundation serves Georgetown and Horry Counties with current total assets of $29 million held in 120 individual funds and endowments.
“Now when we say we serve coastal South Carolina, this partnership means we serve all of coastal South Carolina,” said Richard Hendry, Interim President/CEO of Coastal Community Foundation. “Working together with Waccamaw Community Foundation, we look forward to building on their 15 years of experience to increase the philanthropic impact of donors in Georgetown and Horry Counties.”
Waccamaw Community Foundation will maintain its office in Murrells Inlet to support local grantmaking and donor services. Adding Waccamaw Community Foundation as an affiliate foundation brings the total assets under the umbrella of Coastal Community Foundation and its affiliates to $220 million. This also adds Horry County to Coastal Community Foundation’s now nine county service area.
“Partnering with Coastal Community Foundation through this affiliation strengthens both of our work,” said David Bishop, Board Chair of Waccamaw Community Foundation. “It gives us access to new community networks and institutional knowledge that will help us work together to connect donors to the causes they care about.”
In addition to Waccamaw Community Foundation, Coastal Community Foundation also partners with four other affiliate foundations: Darby Family Foundation, The Jewish Endowment Fund, Saul Alexander Fund and the Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation. These affiliate foundations are classified by the I.R.S. as “supporting organizations”, meaning they support the activities and purpose of Coastal Community Foundation.
