Coastal Community Foundation Announces Final Results of Lowcountry Giving Day, Plans for Next Year

Groundbreaking event raised more than $4 million for area nonprofits, slated to return May 5, 2015
CHARLESTON, SC – July 2, 2014 – Coastal Community Foundation, a grant-making institution dedicated to serving coastal South Carolina, today announced the final results from its inaugural Lowcountry Giving Day and confirmed plans to facilitate it again on May 5, 2015. The event raised a total of $4,003,591.62 for 93 participating Charleston and Beaufort area nonprofits from 7,166 individual gifts made between 12:01 am to 11:59pm on May 6, 2014.
“In a single day, Lowcountry nonprofits worked together to raise more money from more people faster, cheaper and perhaps better than ever before in this region,” said George Stevens, CEO of Coastal Community Foundation. “I’m especially proud to announce that donations from the general public doubled our $1.3 million incentive pool – proof that the event was truly embraced by the entire community.”
Facilitated by Coastal Community Foundation and scheduled to coincide with similar giving day challenges across the country. Lowcountry Giving Day provided matching funds to donations made through www.lowcountrygivingday.org. Key results from the event include:

  • $4,003,591.62 was raised in a single day
  • A total of 7,166 individual gifts were processed
  • Gifts were made from South Carolina and 43 other states
  • 20 percent of gifts came from new donors
  • During peak hours, an average of 10.2 transactions were executed each minute

Lowcountry Giving Day will take place again on May 5, 2015. Coastal Community Foundation staff is working to finalize plans for matching funds and rules for the event. In the coming weeks, announcements will be made to clarify rules, nonprofit eligibility requirements, trainings and more.
