Coastal Community Foundation Calls for Applications for 2016 Griffith/Reyburn Lowcountry Artist Award

December 22, 2015 by CCF

Annual award provides $5,000 to commission a work of art that represents the look and feel of the Lowcountry

CHARLESTON, SC: December 22, 2015 – The Griffith/Reyburn Lowcountry Artist Award of Coastal Community Foundation is accepting applications for its 2016 award cycle through March 11, 2016. The grant is awarded annually to support the creation of a work of visual art that represents the Lowcountry’s unique life, culture or environment.

Created and funded by local residents Mike Griffith and Donna Reyburn, this competitive grant opportunity of $5,000 is intended to support a visual artist during the creation of a work of art which will then be the personal property of the artist to keep, show or sell at his or her own discretion. The selected artist’s new work will also be featured at an opening show and reception in the fall of 2016.

Applicants must be citizens or residents of Charleston County and at least fifteen years of age. The proposed work of art may be done in oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, drawing or a combination of those media. It may also be a work of three-dimensional fine art sculpture (excluding crafts and installation art).

Winning proposals will suggest an innovative subject, style or approach unavailable in galleries and studios today. New and under-recognized artists are encouraged to apply.

Specific guidelines and applications are available on Coastal Community Foundation’s website at https://coastalcommunityfoundation.org/grants/list-of-grants/. The application is due electronically by March 11, 2016 to Sydney Meeks Fowler at Sydney@coastalcommunityfoundation.org.
