Keynote Speaker:

Marva Smalls

Paramount Executive Vice President & Global Head of Inclusion
Nickelodeon Executive Vice President of Public Affairs

Marva Smalls stands out as a visionary leader whose strategic acumen and commitment to diversity and inclusion have made a profound impact in global entertainment. At Paramount, where she serves as the EVP, Global Head of Inclusion, Marva is at the forefront of implementing strategic initiatives that foster a culture of belonging. She is instrumental in driving innovation and business results that resonate across the company’s vast footprint, which includes the iconic brands Paramount, BET, CBS, Nickelodeon, Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central, Smithsonian, and more enjoyed by over one billion people in 180 countries.

In her dual role as EVP, Public Affairs, Nickelodeon, Marva also shapes the corporate responsibility initiatives at Nickelodeon. Her strategic vision for Nickelodeon and its parent company, Paramount, reflects a deep understanding of media’s power to influence societal norms and values.

Marva has been widely acknowledged for her groundbreaking efforts to empower kids. She was recognized for her work with the White House and First Lady Michelle Obama for tackling childhood obesity, and she was honored with the prestigious Peabody Award for The Big Help, among many highlights in her career resulting in generations of kids taking action for themselves and others.

Marva honed her leadership skills and strategic insight through more than three decades of experience in both the public and private sectors. With her deep roots in South Carolina and as a graduate of the University of South Carolina, Marva initially carved out a path in public service. She held many leadership roles in South Carolina state government, including serving as the first African American Chief of Staff for a white Southern Member of Congress and contributing to South Carolina Governor Richard Riley’s administration. This early period in her career laid the groundwork for her philosophy on the power of a purpose-driven career.

Her passion for community engagement and philanthropy is evident through her founding role in the Black Economic Alliance and her strategic engagement on the boards of the American Theatre Wing, the International African American Museum, the James Beard Foundation, the Heisman Trophy Trust, and Synovus Bank/South Carolina.

Notably, she has awarded more than $3 million to programs benefiting youth and families through the Marva Smalls Endowment as well as a $1 million endowment helping to create the Ronald E. McNair Center for Aerospace Innovation and Research.

Marva’s journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the world – whether through public service, industry or philanthropy.
