The Lowcountry Artist of the Year Award was established at Coastal Community Foundation in 2003 by Mike Griffith and Donna Reyburn to support the creation of a new artwork that represents the “the look and feel” of the South Carolina Lowcountry’s lifestyle, culture or environment. The financial support is intended to cover the artist’s living expenses during the creation of the piece, allowing more time and energy to be spent on the artistic process. Upon completion, the piece remains the personal property of the artist, to keep, show or sell at his or her discretion.

Average award: $6,000
Deadline: Feb. 1 or the next business day if that date falls on a weekend.

  • Recipient must be a Charleston County-based visual artist, defined as a fine art sculptor or individual who works in oils, acrylics, watercolors, or pastels.

Application process and schedule
