This competitive program provides grants, leadership development and technical assistance to low and moderate-income neighborhoods in Charleston and Colleton Counties. Created in 1991, the N.E.W. Fund is designed to support self-sustaining community development, leadership, and pride within neighborhoods. Coastal Community Foundation encourages applications from both grassroots and 501(c)3 nonprofit neighborhood organizations. Priority will be given to organizations focused on the Fund’s desired outcomes of strong and healthy families, safe and supportive neighborhoods, residential pride, active community participation and a belief in residents’ power to shape their communities.

Average award: up to $3,000
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on February 1, or next business day if that date falls on a weekend.

  • Coastal Community Foundation encourages applications from both grassroots and 501(c)3 nonprofit neighborhood organizations in Charleston and/or Colleton counties.

Application process and schedule

  • New applicants or those who applied prior to 2015 are required to attend a virtual pre-application session.

    Applications are due February 1. Select groups may receive a site visit and/or follow-up questions, with final decisions announced in late April. In addition to the grant funding, there will be mandatory capacity building workshops for the grantees that were awarded.
