The Thaddeus John Bell, MD Family Scholarship Endowment
The Thaddeus John Bell, MD Family Scholarship Endowment was created with Coastal Community Foundation of SC in 2006 to honor the decades of medical services and civic contributions provided by Dr. Bell both to the minority community and to the majority community, primarily in the greater Charleston area, and also throughout the state of South Carolina and the nation.

Criteria for eligibility

The scholarship is available to students who have been accepted or enrolled in any of the colleges and any of the degree programs at Medical University of South Carolina, and who
- Have completed at least one semester of studies at one of MUSC’s colleges;
- Are legal residents of the state of South Carolina;
- Are minority students of African or African-American descent;
- Are in need of financial aid to some degree, as determined (a) by MUSC’s Office of Financial Aid and (b) by information provided on the scholarship application
- Can accompany the application with a brief letter from his/her Dean attesting that the applicant is a student in good standing at MUSC.
The Endowment especially hopes to receive applications from students who plan to serve underprivileged SC citizens or geographic areas of SC that are underserved by medical professionals.
Application Process & Schedule

Applications can be completed online beginning mid-January. Each applicant will only complete one application and the online system will automatically pair you with scholarships for which you are eligible. The deadline for all applications to be submitted, including letters of recommendation, is mid-March. All applicants will be contacted regarding their application status by early July. Specific deadlines can be found on our scholarship portal each year, which can be accessed through the “Apply” button on our Scholarships for Graduate & Non-traditional Students page.
